|Recommended: YesWell-Kept Apartment Building with Minor Issues — You are paying for what you get, it is nice but pricey
|Recommended: YesGood Apartment — Not a bad place, 825 with utilities. Second roof hot tub could be upgraded Browns.
|Recommended: NoOver It — Did not enjoy my time here. They love to walk into your room all the time, sometimes you get an email, sometimes you get a surprise. Staff to help you with MGE not letting you pay your bills through them is fantastically not helpful. After 5 months of trying, I gave up and have been eating the bonus bill since. While I was here, there was also an issue with the fire alarms going off randomly, this went on for a significant amount of time and though we the apartment residents tried to get attention for this issue, it was ultimately the Madison Fire Department that got them to do something about it. Overall, not super stoked about this apartment...but it is college, so what are you hoping for
|Recommended: NoDecent — I've had worse experiences elsewhere so 244 W Gilman was a decent place to live. However my roommates and I noticed that staff would tell us one thing, but then later charge us for it so that was really unfair and irritating. We were told by taking someone off the lease which we did pay for the lease change that they would come remove the extra bed for us right away. This was told to us multiple times. However this was a lie and they wanted to charge us for that too. Very annoying and I wouldn't recommend this apartment to anyone I know. Just trying to scam us out of money all the time.
|Recommended: YesI think the property is great and an awesome location. — I would tell them that its a great place to live because it is a small apartment building, awesome location and a reasonable price.
|Recommended: YesVery central, State Street noises — It's a great location but you get the State Street noises as the windows are not much noise insulated.
|Recommended: YesGreat apartment, decent maintenance, poor management — The place is nice and in really good shape. Good size and great location. Reasonable price. Maintenance is alright at best. I've had to submit multiple requests to get a job done more than once which is annoying. And they are very unpredictable. Sometimes a request is done the day I submit it, others can take a month but that time was part managements fault as well . Management seems incredibly disorganized. I rented to rooftop space and they double booked. We had a roommate lose his key and they had lost their extra copy so they had to give us all new locks. Nothing too awful but too frequent with the minor annoyance.
|Recommended: YesGood Location, Nice Rooms and Appliances — It's a great place to live. Was only in my place for a semester and did not know my roommate very well, but I enjoyed the property.
|Recommended: YesAwesome — It's really nice and affordable but the payment system gets very confusing.
|Recommended: YesBest Landlord I've Had — From the management side, everyone at Steve Brown is always happy and helpful. After four other landlords, these guys are easily the best. Maintenance was quick to come fix our broken food disposal. The two downsides I've had were poor, untimely communication when my rent check got stolen from the deposit box and the awful internet included in the lease. Just factor purchasing internet into your budget when you sign the lease.
At 244 on Gilman, the units are simple, but the location is fantastic. I'd warn about the electric heat it's going to get pricey in the winter for such a small place but I think utilities are going to be included in the future . The walls are so thin that when someone sneezes, you should expect a bless you from the next door apartment. Luckily, our neighbors are understanding about noise and we'll ask each other to keep it down with no issues. Aside from that, great value for the place.
